At the conclusion of our Zone Project 'Recycle for Sight Blitz', the Central Lions collected 609 pairs of eyeglasses and numerous eyeglass cases, sunglasses and uncut lenses! We also picked up from Salmon Arm Savings and Credit Union Branches - another 1134 pairs of eyeglasses, as part of their initiative! Totals are now coming in and our Zone project may well have exceeded 4000 pairs of eyeglasses for Recycle for Sight!
On the evening of Sat. May 31 we barbequed for the Askew's Relay for Life team fundraiser and had a fun time listening to the great music.
On Sunday, June 22 we were at the Skateboard park for their first 'official' event sponsored by Pinz and the North Okanagan Shuswap Brain Injury Society (NOSBIS). Concess went from 11am - 2:30pm and proceeds were to NOSBIS
We hosted a Club social at our 'Grandstand Cookshack' located on the Fall Fair Grounds - beside the Grandstands Members and friends were invited to come down and help us do a Summer Freshening of the building and then we barbequed dinner for everyone that helped.
On Saturday, June 28, we were the Main concession stand at the 5th Annual Dragon boat and Children's Festival. The Concession ran from 11am - 3pm and we served hamburgers, hot dogs, smokies, veggie burgers, chips and cold drinks. We recruited volunteers from the Sunnyshore District Guides and Victims Assistance - and proceeds went to these two groups for their fundraising needs.
Following that on Tuesday, July 1, we were the main concession for the newly revived Canada Day Celebration at Marine Park in Salmon Arm, hosted by Daybreak Rotary. The Concession ran from 7 - 10pm and included hot dogs, hamburgers, freezies and cold drinks. The weather was awesome and for a 'first' we were happy to sell out of almost everything!
From the June 28 and July 1 concessions we were able to write cheques to two deserving groups. We donated $500 to the Sunnyshore District Guides to help pay camp fees for some girls that required financial assistance. As well, we wrote a cheque for $100 to RCMP Victim services on behalf of the efforts of Rita and Donna at our concessions.
We bartended at a wedding on Saturday, July 19 - and that same weekend, we cooked breakfast both Saturday and Sunday for the Salmon Arm Sockeye's Annual Swim meet! Have you ever wondered what a 'Salmon Egger' is? Proceeds from the sale of breakfast sandwiches went back to the Salmon Arm Sockeyes to offset swim meet costs.
On Thursday, August 14 we will be serving up breakfast sandwiches and juice downtown at the Ross street plaza in conjunction with CBC Daybreak Radio's on location morning show and the DIA's kick off to the Roots n Blues Festival. Proceeds from the sale of breakfast sandwiches go to the SAFE Society which operates the Women's Emergency Shelter in Salmon Arm. Stay tuned for details of an EZ Rock 91.5fm radio on-air auction of two weekend passes to the 2008 Roots n Blues Festival (with Patrick Riley the week before the Festival) and all money raised from the sale of these tickets (highest bidder) goes to the SAFE Society.
Following that, on Sunday, August 17 from 8am - 10:30am is our 5th Annual Pancake Breakfast in the parking lot at Centenoka Park Mall - with proceeds to the Roots n Blues Festival. A 'Big Breakfast' is $6.00 and you receive 2 pancakes, 2 sausages, scrambled eggs, coffee or juice. Or, you can get a 'Little Breakfast' for only $3.50 and you receive 1 pancake, 1 sausage, scrambled eggs, coffee or juice!
