Announcements :

The Salmon Arm Central Lions Club was formerly known as the Salmon Arm Couples Lions Club. The Central Lions are now celebrating 20 years of serving our Community from Nov. 1987 - Nov. 2007 -and looking to many, many more!

Life and Charter Member Elsie Eacrett left us and went to be with The Lord on December 11, 2007. Her absence has left a big hole in the heart of our Club and she is truly missed. Our condolences remain with her husband, Lion Bob Eacrett.

The Central Lions have donated a scholarship to SAS in memory of Elsie Moore-Eacrett, who was also a teacher in this District. The scholarship is for a student that shows exemplary qualities in Volunteering and helping others in the Community.

If you are wondering what being a Lion is all about (we're not an Old men's club!) why not come out to one of our projects and see how much fun we have 'serving' the public and raising money for local groups.

Spring is off to a busy start! From Bartending for the North Okanagan Shuswap Brain Injury Society on May 3 to the Downtown Improvement Associations Spring Fever Beef on a Bun on May 10. $487 was raised for the Cancer Society's Relay for Life.

< At the conclusion of our Zone Project 'Recycle for Sight Blitz', the Central Lions collected 609 pairs of eyeglasses and numerous eyeglass cases, sunglasses and uncut lenses! We also picked up from Salmon Arm Savings and Credit Union Branches - another 1134 pairs of eyeglasses, as part of their initiative! Totals are now coming in and our Zone project may well have exceeded 4000 pairs of eyeglasses for Recycle for Sight!

On the evening of Sat. May 31 we barbequed for the Askew's Relay for Life team fundraiser and had a fun time listening to the great music.

On Sunday, June 22 we will be at the Skateboard park for their first 'official' event sponsored by Pinz and the North Okanagan Shuswap Brain Injury Society. Concess goes from 11am - 2:30pm and proceeds go to NOSBIS

We have a Club social happening at our cookshack located on the Fall Fair Grounds - beside the Grandstands starting at 4pm on Tuesday, June 24. Members and friends are invited to come down and help us do a Summer Freshening of the building and then we will be barbequeing dinner for everyone that helped, starting at 6pm.

On Saturday, June 28, we will be the Main concession stand at the 5th Annual Dragon boat and Children's Festival. Concession runs from 11am - 3pm and we will be serving hamburgers, hot dogs, smokies, veggie burgers, chips and cold drinks.

Following that on Tuesday, July 1, we are the main concession for the newly revived Canada Day Celebration at Marine Park in Salmon Arm. Concession runs from 7 - 10pm and will include hot dogs, hamburgers and cold drinks.

We are bartending at a wedding on Saturday, July 19 - and that same weekend, we are cooking breakfast both Saturday and Sunday for the Salmon Arm Sockeye's Annual Swim meet! Have you ever wondered what a 'Salmon Egger' is? (more fun and fundraising to follow!)
